I am beginning to think about my new series called Perfect Pairings. Working ideas from words into paintings challenges me to find visuals that represent my thinking. I consider any number of potential representations from obvious to abstract. I am leaning toward abstract beginning with a story rock background, stones collected from the seaside. I don’t want to be prescriptive with my audience. I prefer the viewer to create a story from the painting in the same way a novel reader creates their unique understanding of a book based on their personal experience and knowlege. Today I consider a collaborative painting too. Another kind of pairing using an initial idea such as a word pairing of ‘dogma and judgment’.
Kenna Barradell paints large format acrylics. Her work tends to be emotional and political, therefore, typically figurative. She enjoys social commentary using surrealism, abstraction, and humour.
